Greek authorities on Sunday ordered the evacuation of the historic town of Marathon near Athens, which is threatened by wildfires. The fire department said more than 30,000 residents of the city had been transported to the seaside town of Nea Makri. In Greece, scores of firefighters and volunteers spent the day battling forest fires in several parts of the country.
