Greece secured the largest amount of funding from the Commission

The European Commission approved today the extraordinary funding of the EU member states for immigration, with a total amount of 258.9 million euros.

From this total amount, Greece secured funding of 42.4 million euros, for two proposals it submitted.

Greece’s proposals

The first proposal concerns the development of optical fibers and software to improve the exchange of data between border stations.

The second concerns foster care/family and community care and semi-independent living arrangements for teenagers.

Greece secured the largest amount of funding of any other member state. The breakdown by country is as follows:

  • Greece: 42.4 million euros
  • Bulgaria: 37.3 million euros
  • Latvia: €33.4 million
  • Croatia: €29.9 million
  • Italy: 28.8 million euros
  • Cyprus: 23.03 million euros
  • Lithuania: 19 million euros
  • Hungary: 17.3 million euros
  • Spain: €9.57 million
  • Poland: €7.85 million
  • Slovakia: 5.2 million euros
  • Belgium: €5.08 million

The funding will be used to strengthen the EU’s borders and protect migrant minors.

Immigration on the agenda of the Mitsotakis-Soltz meeting

In Berlin, Kyriakos Mitsotakis will meet with Chancellor Olaf Soltz tomorrow. Immigration will also be on the agenda of the discussions, an issue that Greece emphasized from the beginning as being European and in need of a comprehensive European response, at a time when the need to protect the borders is now a European acquis.

According to ifimerida, regional and international developments will also be discussed with an emphasis on the situation in the Middle East and the Eastern Mediterranean, the Western Balkans, as well as the latest developments in Ukraine, as well as all issues of European interest in view of the December European Council .
