The coordination of their actions so that the changes in Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) to take place before the dissolution of the European Parliament agreed during their meeting the Ministers of Agriculture of Greece, Spain and ItalyLefteris Avgenakis, Luis Planas Puchades and Francesco Lollobrigida respectively.
The talks between the three ministers took place in the context of today’s wine ministerial conference taking place in Brescia, Italy, where the problems faced by the Mediterranean countries due to the climate crisis were also discussed.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Rural Development and Food, all three sides consider yesterday’s decision of the European Parliament very important, which approved an urgent procedure, which allows it to vote at the end of April on the revision of the CAP, with the aim of eliminating certain environmental rules.
In addition, Greece, Spain and Italy agree to support the initiatives concerning the adoption of permanent measures within the EU, to deal with the consequences of the climate crisis, but also to increase the Agricultural Reserve
“Mediterranean countries have common problems compared to the countries of the North” said Mr. Augenakis and noted “we must use every diplomatic means to further strengthen our cooperation, to promote mutually acceptable solutions, for the benefit of our farmers. Greece is moving in this direction, activating the lever of “agricultural diplomacy”, making use of both its participation in the Group of Mediterranean countries EUMED-9, and its participation in the European People’s Party”.
