The first of the four steps that the National Team must take to qualify for the Olympic Games took place on Wednesday night (3/7) at the packed Peace and Friendship Stadium. Our representative group prevailed 109-82 against the militant Dominican Republic, with Giannis Antetokounmpo destroying the competition like a paver and Vassilis Spanoulis seeing his team emerge healthy from its premiere in the Pre-Olympic Tournament.
The Greek Freak was magical in both four and five, he didn’t waste possessions, he went with his foot on the gas and in the time he played he punished all the weaknesses of his opponents (32 points, 10/10 two-pointers, 1/1 three-pointer, 9/ 13 shots in just 18:10). A great match from Tomas Walkup, followed by Nick Calathes, with the ratio of assists/errors being fantastic. Next is the match against Egypt (4/7 at 21:00), a much easier opponent than the Dominicans who did everything they could and won the applause.
