Das Luna was born in Ostermundigen is regarding to end. Reason fproductie closure ordered by the canton ist a conflict with dem Bern healthgovernment office. DThe problem: The birthing center cannot guarantee that a doctor will be on site within a maximum of 15 minutes. Dies is part of the specified emergency plan and must be contractually regulatedn. There is now resistance to this. The Greens of the Canton of Bern have unceremoniously launched a petition aimed at saving the birthplace. Within a few hours, around 5,000 people signed it (As of January 6, 4 p.m.).
«We put the petition online on Wednesday evening. I have never seen a petition signed by so many people in such a short time », says Bernese Councilor Natalie Imboden (Greens). This shows how anchored the Luna birthplace is in society. “It would be dramatic to lose one of the last birth centers in the canton,” said Imboden. Therefore, the councilor is now planning to submit a motion that changes the current ordinance. «It is clear that there has to be an emergency plan. However, the 15-minute rule is absurd and has to be deleted, “she says.
Birthplace is happy regarding great solidarity
The great solidarity in the population touches the manager of the Luna birth house: “We are of course very pleased. It is a ray of hope for us in this difficult and confused situation », says Susanne Clauss. She cannot understand why the health department wants to withdraw the operating license from the birth center: “Such threats, without sitting at a table with us or seeking a conversation, are inexplicable to me.”
So far, the Luna birthplace had a cooperation with the Bern medical police. However, the latter terminated the joint contract at the end of 2021. According to the Bern Medical Police, there was a lack of “conformity of medical values, a sufficient basis of trust and functioning communication”, reports the “Berner Zeitung”.
hope dies Last
According to Susanne Clauss, being able to set up a similar contract with another organization is unlikely: “You have to imagine that the doctors have to be with us within 15 minutes. Day and night, 365 days a year. It is not realistic to be able to sign such a team of doctors in the immediate vicinity. ” Clauss hopes for a quick solution: “We hope that the initiative of the Greens will clarify things. The rest is no longer in our power. “
