Great moment: Astros storm college sports throne | News.at

The robots were not only unplugged, they were completely dismantled: the players of the Johannes Kepler University basketball team won. With the 57:46, the Astros not only secured the victory over the robots of the Technical University of Vienna, but also the throne of the Austrian College Sports League, ACSL for short.

The game between TU and JKU might not have been more balanced, as the team from the Technical University made it into the final unbeaten following beating the JKU in the regular season by just one point. Aside from that one match, the Astros had won all their remaining games as well. For the sold-out Stadthalle B in Vienna, which was packed to the sidelines, and for the more than 150 Astros fans who traveled with them, this game for the throne in college basketball was to become a war of nerves. The lead kept changing between the teams, which fought hard duels. Neither team was able to prevail until the last quarter, before the Astros players Lisa Ganhör, Sara Milovanovic, Valerie Voithofer, Valentina Berisha and Emma Gumpetsberger were in top form and secured the last few points with a dominant offensive performance in the last few minutes.

The best university in Austria

Ganhör thanked “the unique JKU community for the support,” which drove the team to top performance. The students and the basketball team proved that the Johannes Kepler University is the best university in Austria, at least in women’s basketball.
