Ahead of the ninth stage of the 2024 Tour de France, the peloton will pay tribute to André Drege. The 25-year-old rider from Norway died on Saturday following a crash on the descent of the Großglockner during the Tour of Austria. Tour organization ASO will not let this pass unnoticed.

It was announced on Sunday morning that the Uno-X Mobility riders would be called to the starting line five minutes before the start of the gravel stage. “They will have the opportunity to pay tribute to André Drege there,” writes the ASO. The cycling world – and especially the small Norwegian cycling community – is deeply affected by Drege’s passing. The final stage of the Tour of Austria was logically also cancelled.

UPDATE 13:50: Two teams with black armbands
Before the start of the Tour stage around Troyes, two teams appeared on the starting podium wearing black armbands. Uno-X Mobility as Norwegian team and Jayco-AlUla also wore a black armband. Drege was recently linked with a transfer to the Australian team. Officially, teams are only allowed to communicate regarding a transfer following August 1, but understandably there are more important things in life.
