Graspop Metal Meeting 2021: Tom Morello, Slash, and Guns N’Roses Heat Up the Stage

You shouldn’t have arrived too late on Thursday to sound the three bells of the 26th edition of the Graspop Metal Meeting on Thursday. From 12:30 p.m., Beast in Black caused a stir with its ideal pop metal to warm up the spirits. It was in sometimes oppressive heat that Wolfgang Van Halen, the son of late master Eddie Van Halen, appeared with Mammoth MVH, his band responsible for opening for Metallica’s European tour.

The atmosphere went up a notch with Spiritbox but also, and above all, with Tom Morello. The guitarist of Rage Against The Machine raised the already very high temperature by interpreting the riffs of his former group in a memorable medley bringing together excerpts from “Bombtrack”, “K’ow Your Enemy”, “Bulls on Parade”, “Guerilla Radio” and “Cochise” from Audioslave, his other group.

Tom Morello is one of the most talented guitarists of his generation. And he demonstrated it once more this Thursday at Graspop. He also tried his hand at the cover of Bruce Springsteen’s “The Ghost of Tom Joad” with great brilliance. But before, the bald guitarist had been joined by Slash on stage to perform “Interstate 80”, a track on which the two guitar heroes faced off in a duel of solos, each more scathing than the other. The first appearance of the guitarist in the hat of Guns N’Roses will have put the plain of Dessel in turmoil.

Some have long hoped to see him join Miles Kennedy with Alter Bridge. But nothing happened… What a pity…

Kiss’ last kiss was deadly

The public also gave a very warm welcome to the charming Alissa White-Gluz and Arch Enemy called to perform on the main stage.

Ghost then Guns N’Roses took care of the rest…
