The current price reduction for graphics cards and the significantly better availability should also affect the production of the various models at Nvidia.
The GeForce RTX 3080 with 12 gigabytes of graphics memory has a difficult time. The GPU of the graphics card were partly obtained as partial defects of the RTX 3090 chips, which could also be installed in the significantly more expensive and powerful GeForce RTX 3080 Ti. As a result, Nvidia shut down the production of graphics cards in order to install the available chips in more expensive models.
In addition, Nvidia is said to have put many chips in graphics cards of the reference designs in order to be able to achieve more profit for the graphics chips as well, as long as customers bought the reference cards. However, a reference design was never presented for the GeForce RTX 3080 with 12 gigabytes of graphics memory, as the graphics card was only released much later as a supplement to the RTX 30 series in January 2022.
According to unconfirmed sources, the general delivery situation has now eased to the extent that Nvidia has resumed production of the GeForce RTX 3080 with 12 GiB and the prices of the graphics cards have been adjusted accordingly. Overall, the graphics card should not have been produced for more than two months.
The GeForce RTX 3080 with 12 gigabytes of graphics memory is currently listed for around 830 euros in the price comparison and thus clearly sets itself apart from the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti, which can only be found for around 1,000 euros.
