Grape Expectations: A Wine Lover’s Paradise Awaits This Week

Grape Expectations: A Wine Lover’s Paradise Awaits This Week

Due to the shortage and existing tensions with the distribution of basic basket products in Cuba, the different instances of the Ministry of Domestic Trade provide periodic updates.

Such is the case of the Provincial Commerce Company of Havana, which has published the distribution schedule of the basic basket for this week in the warehouses of the Cuban capital.

Although these foods are insufficient to cover a month’s nutritional needs, they are considered essential due to high inflation and the general shortage of essential products on the island.

The situation in Havana, although critical, offers a better distribution of products compared to other provinces in the interior of the country, where the shortages are similar or even worse. In the capital, food is distributed that does not reach those territories, increasing the disparity in access to basic resources.

Pending products: Month of August

  • Sal: Pending distribution of the third quarter (June, July and August) by family composition. This delivery will continue as the territories have availability.

Pending distribution: Month of September

  • Rice (7 lb per consumer): Completion of the 7 lbs allocated per person has already begun. This basic food is one of the most demanded in the basket.
  • Peas (10 oz per consumer): The pending delivery of this product, which has been distributed irregularly in some areas, will continue.
  • Sugar (2 lb per consumer): The distribution of this product, which is essential in many Cuban homes, is still ongoing.
  • Sal: It will begin its distribution in the territories where there is availability.
  • Compote (13 boxes for children from 0 to 2 years, 11 months and 29 days): This product for the little ones will continue to be delivered in the warehouses.
  • Fish for medical diets (32-24 and 0804, 6 lb per consumer): The delivery of this product continues, corresponding to the months of August, September and October. It is vital for people on medically indicated diets.
  • Quail egg for pregnant women (30 units per consumer): Delivery of this product, assigned to pregnant women, is taking place this month.

Note from the Provincial Commerce Company

Tribuna de La Habana is not responsible for possible changes in the distribution of products. For more information, you can contact numbers 7204-7185 (food) and 7204-6980 (non-food) for inquiries.

The distribution of the basic basket, although insufficient to cover the monthly needs of Cubans, remains essential in the face of the shortage scenario that the country faces. The long lines and uncertainty in the delivery of products have aggravated the situation, making the population increasingly dependent on these allocated resources.
