GRANT Thornton Indonesia invites the public to care more about environmental sustainability programs. Through CSR activities entitled #WhatRemains, this year, Grant Thornton is not only focusing on waste management, but also inviting people to be wiser in their daily consumption, especially regarding the use of personal care, beauty and daily necessities products.

Head of Support Services Grant Thornton Indonesia Mul Halimwidjaya expressed the importance of the event in the context of shared responsibility for sustainability.

“This year’s CSR initiative from Grant Thornton Indonesia is different from previous years. As part of a series of CSR Day 2024 activities which will last for approximately a month, we started with outreach via social media and encouraging active participation from fellow Grant Thornton Indonesia employees “, namely GT-Zens, through one of our main activities which includes collecting used beauty products or skin care products which is managed with our collaborative partners, to inspire a more responsible and wise lifestyle in consumption,” said Mul in his official statement, Wednesday (30/10).

Through these programs, he continued, Grant Thornton not only encourages recycling, but also inspires responsible habits at every level of society, from small habits at home to wiser consumption patterns.

As part of a series of CSR Day 2024 activities, this activity includes collecting unused beauty products or personal care products to be managed by collaborative partners.

Since the start of this campaign, Mul revealed that Grant Thornton Indonesia has succeeded in collecting 89.2 kg of waste consisting of 1,726 used personal care products. Of this amount, currently the Kertabumi Recycling Center has succeeded in recycling more than 30% which is expected to have a positive impact on the environment, as well as raising awareness about sustainable waste management.

“Through the #WhatRemains initiative, Grant Thornton Indonesia hopes to continue to encourage awareness and real action in protecting the environment. Starting from small steps in daily life to active participation in sustainability programs at the community level, we want to inspire positive, sustainable change. “Seeing the enthusiasm of our employees (GT-Zens), we hope that in the future this activity can become a routine program as a form of Grant Thornton Indonesia’s real commitment to supporting sustainability programs,” he said.

On the other hand, Co-Founder and PR Director of Kertabumi Recycling Center Santi Novianti added about the important role of society in waste management. He emphasized that people can start from the simplest things, such as sorting waste at home. This habit allows waste banks to reprocess or recycle waste.upcycling so that waste is not wasted.

“It is very important for all of us to appreciate the work of scavengers who help reduce waste in our environment,” he explained.

He stated that, although there is not a big difference between men and women in environmental awareness, women do tend to care more about everyday household waste.

“This is a small habit, but very important, because Indonesia is already in a waste emergency situation. With this step, we hope that GT-Zens can start taking action from small things at home,” explained Santi.

Meanwhile, Demibumi Co-Founder Jessica Halim highlighted the importance of environmentally friendly habits which are often overlooked in households.

“We have 5 special trash bins at home to sort different types of waste. This system requires a lot of commitment, and one of the main challenges is ensuring the family remains consistent. All family members, including children, are involved and aware of it. managing this waste is like being a ‘waste police’. This is not an easy matter, however, with awareness and tolerance, over time this habit can become a natural thing profit,” said Jessica. (E-2)
