This stunning little country church has been cozied up in peaceful Grandview, Indiana since it was first built in 1890. Once it was no longer serving a congregation, it began to slowly fade away among overgrown brush becoming unkempt and sad. That is until it was purchased in 2022 and given a much-needed update.

Converted to a 3-bedroom and 1.5-bath residential space, you can now see the life breathed back into the spirit of the old rundown church. A fresh coat of paint, and countless hours of hard work later, this beauty has even surpassed her former glory. The original wood floors and charming stained glass windows have been restored to let in the gorgeous natural light that surrounds.

My friend, Emily Walters has always dreamed of having a retreat space or bed and breakfast. She and her husband Scott are old friends of ours going back to The Brother’s Pizza shop days in the early 2000s. There was a group of us that hung out there all the time following school and we all became really close.
Emily and Scott are two of the most kind folks with the biggest hearts for people. They have both had lifelong careers in guest experience industries, so with their background, it only makes sense that they are nailing this new venture from the jump.

Scott told me they weren’t exactly planning to dive into this project, but once Emily saw the property, she fell in love. “She saw the property posted on a Thursday night, drove out to see it from the outside by herself the next morning, told me at lunch that it was ours, then we got the last showing of the day that Friday, put the first offer in, then had ours chosen over 6 others by noon on Saturday AM.” If that doesn’t sound meant to be, I don’t know what does!

Play some music on the record player while cooking a nice dinner and a glass of wine or two. I personally would love to just go and unplug for 48 hours or maybe get a couple of girlfriends together for a reset in nature together. Every detail in every room seems thoughtfully placed. I love the nods to the original vintage nature of the church mixed with the modern elements that make it clean and sleek.

I love the stained glass in the unique windows featured in every room. The cozy bedrooms provide a nice place to get a good night’s rest without the hustle and bustle of city noises. The inside of the church is a stunning open concept with incredible 20-foot ceilings. These are my favorite kinds of places to stay. Everyone can spend quality time together with plenty of space.
