Grandparents who are still working should also be allowed to take maternity leave in the future: before retirement, they might take on care responsibilities and receive childcare allowance without having to fear professional disadvantages. The Hungarian model is exemplary. The Chancellor expects more individuality and freedom of choice for parents.
Opinions on the proposed model are divided: While some see great advantages, others see women in particular as being even more at risk of slipping into poverty in old age – because the responsibility for caring for children still lies predominantly with women.
