A grandmother, who had decided to collect a pit bull despite the recommendations of a veterinarian, paid with her life.
Listening only to her big heart, Briton Anne Shields, 67, had welcomed the stray dog into her Spanish home, reports the Daily Mail.
It seems that a veterinarian had however tried to dissuade her because of the dangerousness of the animal.
The dog unfortunately turned once morest her four days later. Ms Shields suffered ‘catastrophic’ injuries to her arms and head, according to the Daily Mail.
Neighbors who heard her screams alerted the authorities. The police who intervened at the home of the grandmother had to put down the beast in order to be able to save the poor woman. However, she died in hospital.
The police confirm that they have identified the dog’s owner, although he did not have a microchip. It appears he might not own pit bulls or other ‘potentially dangerous’ dogs in Spain due to past offences.
Investigators say the dog’s owner is a 35-year-old Spaniard. An investigation is underway for suspicion of manslaughter.
According to the victim’s daughter, her mother loved animals. She had named the pit bull Choccy. She had no intention of keeping him, but the shelters were full and she mightn’t bring herself to throw the dog back on the street.
