Grand Turismo 7 is coming to PC

When we talk regarding SimRacing, the titles that come to mind are usually Dirt, WRC, Assetto Corsa or Forza Motorsport. These video games have become flagship licenses because they are available on PC, making it possible to add a large number of SimRacing accessories and equipment. On the PlayStation side, there is the coveted Gran Turismo 7 by Kazunori Yamauchi which is very famous on Sony’s console. Also, will this license have a PC version, like most great titles on PlayStation? Let’s see together in this article the future project of Sony and Kazunori Yamauchi regarding this simulation racing game.

Gran Turismo 7: a racing video game that lasts in time

A few days ago, the Polyphony Digital studio announced the release of a new update for the racing video game Gran Turismo 7. In fact, this new additional content somehow marks the 25th anniversary of this opus. In this update delivered by the Polyphony Digital studio, we can find, among others:

  • The Nissan Silvia S14,
  • The BMW M2 Coupe (F87),
  • La Ford Sierra RS Cosworth, etc.

This DLC is available via download on Sony consoles (the PlayStation 4 and the PlayStation 5) since November 24. Also, the World Series of Gran Turismo competitions can be followed live for this week. For your information, know that from November 17 to November 27, fans and players of the Polyphony Digital studio franchise were able to try their luck to win a million credits if their prediction was correct.

Early access for the sports car from Ferrari (Ferrari Vision GT), other accessories and objects were also offered to the winner of the prediction. Via its flagship license, the Polyphony Digital studio organizes new races which will extend until January 3, 2023. Note that one of these races will unlock the Red Bull X2019 25th Anniversary. A real boon for a large number of players with the end of the year holidays approaching.

As Gran Turismo 7 is exclusive to Sony’s PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, players are starting to wonder if this latest installment of the license might be coming to PC soon. Indeed, as a large number of exclusive video games on PlayStation have been ported to PC, there is a good chance that the studio Polyphony Digital and Sony will do the same with this license.

A possible PC port for Gran Turismo 7

Since the arrival of Horizon Zero Dawn on PC in 2020, which is an exclusive video game on the PlayStation, most of Sony’s flagship licenses have been offered to PC gamers. This is the case with video games:

  • God of War 2018,
  • Marvel’s Spider-Man,
  • Uncharted 4 et 5,
  • Sackboy a big Adventure,
  • Marvel’s Spider-Man : Miles Morales, etc.

Even though porting video games from PlayStation to PC is quite long, as of 2020, Sony has already offered most of its most popular licenses to the delight of PC gamers. To this end, the arrival of the simulation racing video game Gran Turismo on the PC is possible since even God of War has been there. Even if the competition will be fierce for the license of the Polyphony Digital studio because on PC there are already famous SimRacing like Forza Motorsport, IRacing, Assetto Corsa, WRC or Dirt, and most computer players expect it from firm footing.

Kazunori Yamauchi, the designer of the Gran Turismo video game was asked by GTPlanet regarding the development of a PC version for this license. He responded by saying that it was in the order of the possible, but it would not be an easy task. Indeed, according to Kazunori Yamauchi, Gran Turismo is a title that is meticulously regulated. On the other hand, there are very few platforms (consoles or pc) that might launch this game with a 4k resolution at 60FPS, and that, natively. The only way to make this possible is to reduce the number of platforms that will be compatible with Gran Turismo 7. The Polyphony Digital studio is already studying the subject of the possibility of porting, but it might take a lot of time on the development side.

The port of Gran Turismo 7 on PC is therefore within the realm of possibility, except that the release is not scheduled for next year. According to statements made by Kazunori Yamauchi, the studio is already looking into this subject. Moreover, insofar as Sony can rely on the skills of the company Nixxes, the specialist in porting PlayStation games to PC, the tasks of the Polyphony Digital studio will thus be reduced. However, gamers should be prepared in terms of PC configuration. The game will be quite greedy with its graphic realism.
