The Grand Théâtre de Genève is one of the six major opera houses nominated as part of the International Opera Awards 2023. The winners will be announced on November 9 during the awards ceremony which will take place at the Teatr Wielki in Warsaw.
“This appointment confirms the position of the Grand Théâtre as one of the most important and innovative opera houses in the world,” noted the institution in a press release on Friday. The other five nominees in this category are the Bayerische Staatsoper, the Opéra Comique de Paris, the San Francisco Opera, the Tearto dell’Opera de Rome and the Volksoper Vienna.
Among the nominations in the other categories are several artists who were on the stage of the Grand Théâtre during the 2022-2023 season. Mark Minkowski is nominated in the conductor category (“La Juive”), Tatjana Gürbaca in the staging category (“Katia Kabanova”, “Jenufa”) and Corinne Winters in the category reserved for singers (“Katia Kabanova” , “Jenufa”).

The selection of the International Opera Awards is made by a jury made up of 60 professionals from the profession. Founded in 2012, these awards celebrate excellence in opera around the world.
