The Grand-Place of Mouscron was packed with people this Thursday, July 20 for an event that was intended as the “aperitif” of our national holiday. Animated by Stéphane Pauwels, Yannick Rosco and Fabian Le Castel, the center of the city of Hurlus became, for one evening, an open-air “boom”. The organization, which required three months of preparation, benefited from complicit weather conditions.
The event, intended for families, offered songs from the 80s to 2010. These were taken up in chorus by young and old, mixing here and there a few wild dance steps. “We wanted this one-night party to be family-friendly so that everyone might find something for themselves, especially in terms of organized karaoke. A rap title was also played and quickly cut, because it was not in line with the theme of the evening!”begins Steve Mercier, organizer alongside Cédric Jouen, both born in 1984 and who have known each other since kindergarten 3.
Overwhelmed, but happy
Called upon from all sides, the organizers had very little rest on Thursday evening. And despite races all over the site, the feeling was more than positive. “As people from Mouscron, it is a real pride for us to have organized this boom. It was a bet, a promise and it was successfully kept. We are happy with the result, with at least 3,000 to 4,000 people visibly meeting on the Grand-Place”, sourit Steve.
But despite an undeniable success, it will be time to think regarding a new edition in 2024.
We’ll see ! We will already recover from this Thursday and the festival organized Friday in the park on the occasion of the national holiday. It took us three months of intensive preparation in partnership with the City Center Management, the Tourist Office and the City, at the rate of two to three meetings per week. I thought I had the opportunity to work in my bar, but my wife had warned me that I might not serve a beer. And she was right, it’s a job to be an organizer!”jokes the manager of the bistro “La Paix”.
There is no doubt that following such an atmosphere in the city center, the people of Mouscron will be asking for a second edition, putting pressure on Steve and Cédric!
