Grand-Nord: 150 new housing units to accommodate health personnel in Nunavik

Quebec has given the green light for the construction of 150 housing units in Nunavik in order to accommodate health personnel this summer and attract labor to the Far North.

“This construction project is part of the overall efforts made by the government to improve the attractiveness and retention of the workforce throughout the health network, and more particularly in Nunavik. It will ultimately make it possible to improve access to quality care for citizens, ”announced the office of the Minister of Health in a press release on Friday.

These new units will be added to those already available to the staff of the Tulattavik and Inuulitsivik health centers, as well as to the Nunavik Regional Board of Health and Social Services (NRBHSS), which are already full to bursting.

One of the “major obstacles” to attracting health personnel to Nunavik is the lack of housing, according to the Minister of Health, Christian Dubé.

“Our government is thus taking concrete action to improve the attractiveness and retention of labor in order to meet the major needs. Concretely, it is the citizens of these communities who will be the winners and who will have access to quality health care,” he added.
