Queen B. Beyoncé’s coronation became the most crowned artist of all time at the Grammy Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday.

History was already on the march before this Sunday for Beyoncé: with the nominations for this edition, she had equaled the record of her husband, Jay-Z, as the most nominated artist in the history of these awards (88).

The evening, hosted by comedian Trevor Noah, opened with a live performance by the prince of Puerto Rican reggaeton Bad Bunny, one of the most commercially successful artists in the world in 2022. Nominated in three categories, he won a gramophone.

American Bonnie Raitt won the Grammy for song of the year with “Just Like That”. The American blues, folk and country singer and guitarist surprised heavyweights Beyoncé, Taylor Swift and Adele. Her victory is one more consecration: the artist was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2000, and Rolling Stone ranked her among the 100 greatest singers and the 100 greatest guitarists of all time.

Harry Styles meanwhile won the first award of the evening, that of the best vocal pop album (“Harry’s House”), before singing his hit “As It Was”, dressed entirely in sparkling fringes.

He then won the Grammy for album of the year with “Harry’s House”, his third opus. A disc where synthesizers and soft acoustics are accompanied by very personal lyrics, to make it the most intimate album of the British star.

Video game music, rewarded for the first time

Rapper Kendrick Lamar picked up three awards out of eight nominations, with Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Song for “The Heart Part 5” and Best Album, with “Mr. Morale – the Big Steppers.”

Among the first sensations of the pre-ceremony, actress Viola Davis joined the very select club of artists who won the four major American awards, the Oscar (cinema), the Emmy (television), the Tony (theater ) and Sunday evening a Grammy, in the category “audiobook, narration” for his memoir “Finding Me”.

She is the 18th artist to perform this exceptional performance, called “EGOT”, following notably Whoopi Goldberg, Mel Brooks, or Rita Moreno.

The first award of its kind in the history of the Grammys, the prize for best music in a video game went to American Stephanie Economou, for the music of “Assassin’s Creed Valhalla: Dawn Of Ragnarok”.
