Last month, two teenagers were caught by the police following scribbling on the wall of Gyeongbokgung Palace and running away.
At the time, they stated that a person called ‘Team Leader Lee’, whom they met through social media, paid them to do graffiti.
However, it was revealed that a person named ‘Team Leader Lee’ wrote the graffiti and even instructed the broadcaster to report it.
Reporter Cho Hee-hyung covered the story exclusively.

At around 3 a.m. on the 16th of last month, a report was received by MBC.
″There was spray graffiti on the Gwanghwamun National Treasure, so I am reporting it in real time″ and ″I saw it while passing by and took a picture,″ he also attached two photos.
The reporter on duty called immediately.

<(낙서) 하고 간 사람을 보신 건 아니신 거죠?> yes. <상황을 설명해 주실 수 있을지…> What is the situation?”
I asked for specific details, but the informant did not give a proper answer.
The call ended in one minute.
″<다른 쪽에도 있는 걸 혹시 보신 적 있으신지?> That’s all I saw. There are a lot of police cars around… ″
It turned out that this informant was 16-year-old Kim, who was arrested by the police three days later on charges of participating in graffiti.

″<범행 동기가 어떻게 되시죠? 잘못인 것 전혀 몰랐어요?>…″
According to the police investigation, the so-called ‘Team Leader Lee’, who instigated the graffiti, even instructed the suspects to report the graffiti to the media following the graffiti.
It is known that Ms. Kim reported the incident to other terrestrial broadcasters besides MBC.
At that time, 17-year-old Lim, an accomplice, had already finished graffitiing the walls of Gyeongbokgung Palace and the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency on three occasions at 1:42, 55, and 2:44 a.m.
It appears that ‘Team Leader Lee’ tried to expose the graffiti to the public through media reports before it was covered up.
The police have been tracking ‘Team Leader Lee’ for nearly a month, but they are still clueless.
The money the teenage suspects received from ‘Team Leader Lee’ was 100,000 won.
The government plans to charge graffiti offenders regarding 100 million won for restoration costs.
MBC reporters called Ms. Kim to ask for her position, but were unable to contact her.
