It was at the end of March when Disney Plus premiere Graduation Pact, new youthful romantic comedy that puts on the table what social and loving relationships between adolescents are like.
This one in particular leaves a young woman named Mandy Yang (Peyton Elizabeth Lee), who along with his friend Ben (Milo Manheim) live their last days of high school.
As always, the thoughts of most students are on the famous prom. However, Mandy goes further and aims to enter Harvard University.
But that was initially frustrated, because the young woman only remains on the waiting list. Faced with this situation, she is willing to do whatever is necessary, including breaking her prejudices.
That is how Miss Chen (Margaret Cho) gives her an idea: tutoring one of the most popular students in the entire school. Is regarding Graham Lansing (Blake Draper), who is handsome, athletic, and doesn’t do well academically.
Graham is also the son of a senator from that state, who was also a Harvard student in his youth. This can bring several advantages to the girl.
This is how she accepts this job and, along the way, she realizes that the student is a very different person from what she initially believed.
Graduation Compact Details
BioBioChile had the opportunity to discuss this film with Margaret Cho, who provided some interesting details regarding the main plot and teachings.
Tell us regarding your character, Miss Chen…
“I’m like a kind of guidance counselor within the school, who helps the kids and has a lot to say in terms of counseling for Mindy, regarding her life.”
“She’s always trying to tell them that there are more options for her future than Harvard, but she’s very persistent.”
How is the theme of feminism developed in the film?
“I think it comes out a lot from watching an Asian-American woman who is making some very important decisions. She is very direct, she is very intelligent, aware of what she has to do ”.
“He also gets very frustrated seeing the system and how it’s set up. It’s very important that the story focuses on women who are different, because she is very different.”
What are the differences between this movie and other Disney classics, like High School Musical?
“I think the main difference is that it focuses on a story regarding an American woman of Asian descent. There is also diversity in the cast, for example my character is openly gay”.
“There is also that landscape where you see very different students. So I think it’s much more related to the future and the idea of diversity.”
