After a nightmarish week marked by massive cancellations threatening to ruin US Southwest Airlines’ reputation, the airline finally seemed on track to return to a normal schedule of operations, according to US media.
As of Friday morning, 41 of Southwest’s flights for the day have been canceled, according to flight tracking service FlightAware.
A small number of cancellations each day is common. Dozens of cancellations represent a significant improvement from Thursday, when more than 2,300 flights were canceled, according to a New York Times report.
In a statement on Thursday, US Southwest Airlines said it expects to return to its normal schedule this Friday “with minimal disruption.”
The debacle began last week when a major winter storm disrupted flight plans across the United States, forcing large numbers of flights to be canceled during the busiest air traffic week of the year. . Other airlines managed to recover from this disruption in a day or two, but for US Southwest Airlines, the problems got even worse followingward.
