Gracie Abrams Reveals Her Relationship and Experience Opening for Taylor Swift

SINGER Gracie Abrams has opened up about her close relationship with her friend and mentor Taylor Swift. The 24-year-old singer revealed she felt like she knew the pop star when they first met ahead of her opening performance on Swift’s Eras tour.

“When I met [Swift]“It felt like we knew each other, there was definitely an element of a parasocial relationship,” Abrams told the British newspaper The Sunday Times. “I’ve grown up with his voice in my headphones my whole life.”

Abrams added that her friend Swift, who is also a mentor, is “a safe place to go whenever I have a question about anything.”

In addition to music, the “Risk” singer also shared that Swift gave him great advice on how to deal with the back pain he experienced from touring.

“She recommended an acupressure mat which really changed everything for me,” Abrams says.

Abrams opened for Swift during the North American leg of her Eras tour in April 2023, although she told The Sunday Times she had “no expectations whatsoever of being involved in that capacity.”

The two even ended up performing together on stage in Cincinnati during the tour after Abrams’ performance was canceled due to bad weather. In June, Abrams performed with Swift again during the London concert of the Eras Tour.

While attending the 2024 Grammys in January, Abrams told PEOPLE that opening for Swift was an experience “beyond my wildest dreams.”

“Being a part of that tour in a small way has changed the course of my life in so many ways,” he said.

“… He was the most amazing performer and the most generous friend… I can’t help but feel that his belief in me really… meant so much. So, I am eternally grateful to him.”

Swift also features on Abrams’ song, “Us,” from her second studio album, The Secret of Us, which was released in June and co-written.

Abrams wrote on X (formerly Twitter) about the collaboration in May, “… Some of the most fun I’ve had in my life was writing this song together. Without a doubt. I’m smiling and sweating right now thinking about it and I’ll never get over the shock of seeing this song on the tracklist.”

The two even performed the song together at Swift’s Eras Tour show in London on June 23, during a surprise song portion of the concert.

Abrams will reunite with the “Cruel Summer” singer in late 2024 for the final leg of the North American tour. (People/Z-3)
