TOYOTA GAZOO Racing World Rally Team (TGR-WRT) announced that the GR Yaris Rally 2 has officially received homologation from the FIA (Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile) from January 1, 2024.

TOYOTA GAZOO Racing (TGR) has so far participated in the WRC (FIA World Rally Championship) with the GR YARIS Rally1 HYBRID and the FIA World Endurance Championship with the GR010 HYBRID, as well as developed the GR Supra GT4, and is a customer motor vehicle manufacturer. Through sports, we have promoted the creation of ever-better cars.

Feedback from motorsports is also reflected in the GR series of commercial sports cars.

GR Yaris Rally2 was developed for customer rallies. Chairman Akio Toyoda, also known as “Morizo,” hopes that this car will be the first step in building a bridge between motorsport vehicles and commercial cars through rally competition, and that it will contribute to the revitalization of the global rally market.

With the acquisition of this homologation certificate, sales of the GR Yaris Rally 2 to customers around the world will begin. The commemorative first car is scheduled to be delivered to ROOKIE Racing, led by Morizo, and four teams are scheduled to participate in the Rally Monte Carlo from January 25th to 28th using the GR Yaris Rally 2.

The GR Yaris, Toyota’s first exclusively developed four-wheel drive sports car in 20 years, was created by TGR with the mission of winning the WRC. The GR Yaris is not a car built by TGR to win, but a car built by customers to win. This will be the beginning of his new rally challenge.

This car will make its public debut at Rally Japan in 2022, with Morizo behind the wheel and measuring its performance. Since then, we have received a lot of feedback from a number of drivers who have tested the Rally 2 cars on a variety of surfaces and conditions. It has traveled over 15,000km, including participation in the All Japan Rally Championship, and has also been tested on public roads in Japan.

The development process to date has incorporated feedback from top professional drivers, up-and-coming young drivers, and experienced customer drivers. In the future, we will collect a wider range of feedback from customer drivers who participate in motorsports championships such as the WRC, and make improvements to make the car even better.
