The trend of generative artificial intelligence has become popular, but most AI in Hong Kong requires VPN to be used. The GPT4All that I want to share with you today does not require a VPN, and can even be used without being connected to the Internet. GPT4All supports Windows, Mac and Ubuntu, in addition to providing multiple AI models. If you have an OpenAI Key, you can use GPT-3.5 and GPT-4 directly.
The interface of GPT4All is similar to the familiar ChatGPT. The usage method is to ask questions through chatting with AI, and the chat history can be stored locally on the computer. Once you click on the link above, you will see the download points for Windows, Mac and Ubuntu. The editor will use Windows as an installation demonstration.
Step 1 Download GPT4All
Click firstLinkingEnter the GPT4All website and download GPT4All. The editor is using Windows OS, so I will use Windows for demonstration next.

Step 4 Start using GPT4All
Click the button in the upper left corner to start using the AI model you just downloaded.
This language model supports Chinese, but you have to prompt it separately to respond in Traditional Chinese.

In order to test the text generation ability of this AI, the editor set up a scenario, that is, my best friend is getting married tomorrow, and I plan to ask the AI to write a leave letter for me. The editor feels that the text generation ability of this AI is average. It looks like it first generates English and then “hardly” translates it into Chinese.

Summary: Free VPN can use AI, but it is a bit weaker than ChatGPT
I don’t know if the AI installed by the editor is weak. The Chinese processing capability seems to be average, and the response speed is very slow compared to ChatGPT. However, the advantage of GPT4All is that it can be used immediately without a VPN, and some AI models do not need to be connected to the Internet, which is better than nothing.
