GPF has surveys conducted among postal workers
Vienna (OTS) – The trade union of postal and telecommunications employees (GPF) has submitted its demands for the salary and collective bargaining negotiations at Österreichische Post AG to the board of directors. The core of the demands is the increase of all paid components above inflation in order to achieve a sustainable increase in purchasing power for the almost 20,000 postal workers. The decisive average of monthly inflation in the period April 2022 to March 2023 is expected to be 9.6%.
“The daily work of our colleagues at Swiss Post is physically hard and stressful. In addition, the pay is low, especially for employees covered by a collective agreement. As a result, especially in times of general labor shortages, many who start at the post office quickly leave it once more,” said Richard Köhler, chairman of the GPF and chief negotiator. “It must also be the aim of the Post Management Board to be seen as an attractive employer so that Post can continue to meet the high expectations of customers in the future. Good work must be paid well. In addition to a strong wage increase for everyone, we are therefore demanding a minimum salary of €2,000 gross for full-time work and an apprentice income of €1,000 gross from the first year of training,” said the union chairman.
The first round of negotiations with the postal board will take place on March 29, 2023. In the meantime, the postal workers have the opportunity to take part in an anonymous online survey by the GPF for the first time. Not only the current economic situation of the employees is asked, but also the willingness to support the negotiation success with possible trade union measures.
