Alex Wurz (center of photo) is concerned regarding tensions between Liberty Media and the FIA. The former F1 driver, today still president of their association, the GPDA, has never felt such a close rift between the two parties which manage the Formula 1 world championship.

“In my role within the GPDA, I have never been confronted with such tensions,” he declared. “But it is important for all parties involved that we act in the best way possible for the sport and its future. Differences of opinion are acceptable, even productive, as long as we talk to each other and respect each other.”

“Ultimately the FIA is the regulator and the governing body, and the FOM owns the commercial rights. I think the roles and lines don’t need to be redrawn and the gray areas in between need dialogue and respect to advance the sport.”

Wurz believes it is important that the federation and F1 try to move beyond these tensions and the rumors they create: “There is always something that people talk regarding in our sport, especially at the moment when we see so much debate, but the sport is in a great situation.”

“It is important, as I said above, that we act together. The FIA, the teams, F1, the promoters and the drivers. Let’s not listen to the noise, let’s focus on the sport.”
