Rasmus Bögh Wallin (Suri – Carl Ras) won the GP Rik Van Looy (cat. 1.2) on Sunday, contested between Westerlo and Herentals over 176.8 kilometers. The Dane was ahead of Gianluca Pollefliet (Lotto Dstny DT) and Pieter Van Laer (RB Zelfbouw UCT) in the sprint.

The meeting is a tribute to double world champion Rik Van Looy, now 89 years old. “The Emperor of Herentals” himself started the race which bears his name.

But what stood out the most about this race was the incident caused by a member of the Lotto Dstny Development Team. Before he could enter the course, sports director Carl Roes forced his way with his vehicle by running over a flagger, then continuing on his way, as if nothing had happened.

“This is a very regrettable and unacceptable incident,” reacted the team’s CEO, Stéphane Heulot, in the columns of Het Laatste Nieuws. “As soon as we heard the news, we suspended the sports director. There is no excuse for such behavior. We also want to express our apologies to the flagger and the organization. »
