Govt did not shut down internet nor slow down speed: IT Minister

Pakistan’s Minister of State for I&T Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja has said that the government will auction 5G spectrum in the country next year while four more international internet cables will be brought to Pakistan.

Addressing a news conference in Islamabad on Sunday, the Minister of State said that 5G spectrum will be auctioned in the country in the first or second quarter of next year and it will increase internet speed and use of tools like artificial intelligence. It will improve.

Shaza Fatima said that the arrival of four international internet cables to Pakistan will also increase the internet speed in the country, which will also benefit the country’s economy.

He said that the government or any government agency has no role in the recent decrease in internet speed in the country, but it is happening due to the use of VPN.

Explaining his point, he said that users who use VPNs start using direct international streams instead of CDNs, and downloads are especially slow as the number of such users increases.

“I want to explain once again and tell that the reduction of Internet speed in the country has nothing to do with the government of Pakistan or any government agency.”

He said that the government of Pakistan did not stop the internet in the country and did not reduce its speed.

The federal minister further said that his ministry is working tirelessly to improve the internet speed and efforts are underway to avoid such problems in the future.

He said that the coming of 5G and four more international cables to Pakistan will significantly increase the internet speed, due to which the connected users will benefit immensely.

He said that his ministry is also working on making the first AI policy for the country, while soon a digitalization commission is being established under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, which will work in the economy, business, private sectors and every sector. It will help in digitization of the sector.

Shaza Fatima Khawaja said that the digitization of government departments and offices will provide convenience to the common people and the reasons for delays in government work will be revealed.

‘The country’s GDP can be increased at least two times by digitization of government and private institutions.’

Anhu added that the present government plans to establish IT parks across the country and the first step in this regard will be taken from the federal capital where ten thousand jobs will be available from the IT park.

He said that the federal government is establishing more than 20 special technology parks across the country this year, while IT cities are also part of the government’s planning.

Shaza Fatemi said that four more incubation centers will be established in the country during the current financial year, one of which will be run by women only.
