The Patagonian governors agreed that the “provinces participate” in the unfinished works of the mountain gas pipeline which affects new connections to the gas network in around twenty towns in Chubut, Río Negro and Neuquén from July 2022.
The governor of Chubut, Ignacio Torres, announced this commitment assumed by the three provincesalong with his peers Rolando Figueroa and Alberto Weretilneck, at the meeting of leaders last week in Villa La Angostura, coincidentally one of the cities where Camuzzi limited connections to the gas network.
The main works of the gas pipeline were carried out years ago and inaugurated during the presidency of Mauricio Macri, but complementary works were missing that limited the supply capacity for new facilities. In the three affected provinces, complaints were made and there is even an unresolved protection from a consumer organization in the Federal Court of Bariloche.
Torres said that “There is a principle of agreement to submit a proposal where the provinces also participate in some works that are central” and pointed out that there are three compression plants that should be installed, but due to bureaucratic problems “They are rusting in Rosario”.
The governor said that the gas pipeline is an issue “lack of political will” of different governments that now the provincial leaders want to resolve by taking the lead with the recovery of the compressor plants and the management before Camuzzi so that “this work is contemplated and executed”. It was not mentioned whether the provinces will provide investments to complete these tasks.
Camuzzi, months ago under the protection of Bariloche, responded to the Court that the problem in carrying out the complementary works was the responsibility of the National Energy Secretariat and Enargas.
“We don’t want to go into winter with problems“said Torres, who acted as spokesperson on this issue and recalled that since mid-2022 the Camuzzi company has not enabled meter connections in the mountain region.
