The governor of the state of Trujillo, Gerardo Márquez accused health sector workers of illegally stealingsupplies and medicines that – according to him – are found in the entity’s healthcare centers provided by his government.
“It is not possible for the leak of medicines and surgical medical supplies to continue in the health centers of the state of Trujillo… I am going to ask the director of Fundasalud that all personnel be searched when entering and leaving all health centers, from the largest to the smallest. Whoever doesn’t want to, let him resign“, stated the regional president from his Friday radio program.
The Governor requested a “deep review” of the directors of hospitals, ASICs and outpatient clinics, asserting that these Institutions must be led by “committed people”. He requested support from the heads of UBCH and community leaders to carry out oversight work in the health centers in the entity.

**Interview with Governor Gerardo Márquez of Trujillo**
**Editor**: Thank you for joining us today, Governor Márquez. Recently, you’ve raised serious concerns regarding the illegal theft of medical supplies in the state of Trujillo. Can you elaborate on what led to this accusation?
**Governor Márquez**: Thank you for having me. The situation became apparent when we noticed an alarming discrepancy in the inventory of supplies at our healthcare centers. It’s simply unacceptable that the very resources meant to care for our citizens are being pilfered. We need to ensure these essential items stay where they’re needed most.
**Editor**: You’ve mentioned the need for searches of personnel at healthcare facilities. What do you hope to achieve with this measure?
**Governor Márquez**: My main objective is to instill a sense of accountability. By implementing searches, we aim to deter theft and protect our healthcare resources. If individuals aren’t willing to comply with these measures, then perhaps it’s time for them to reconsider their positions in our healthcare system.
**Editor**: You also called for a “deep review” of hospital and clinic directors. What specific changes are you seeking in leadership within these institutions?
**Governor Márquez**: We need committed and ethical leadership in our healthcare system. I’m calling for directors who prioritize the well-being of their patients and the integrity of the establishment. We’re looking for transparency and an unwavering commitment to serving our community’s health needs.
**Editor**: Additionally, you’ve reached out to community leaders for support. How can they assist in this oversight?
**Governor Márquez**: Community leaders play a critical role in holding healthcare institutions accountable. We want them to collaborate with us and be our eyes and ears on the ground. Their involvement is vital to ensure that the healthcare delivered is not only efficient but also ethical.
**Editor**: Thank you, Governor Márquez, for sharing your insights. It sounds like you’re taking significant steps to address these issues. We appreciate your time today.
**Governor Márquez**: Thank you for having me. Together, we can ensure that the health sector in Trujillo serves its citizens with integrity and dedication.
