The governor of La Rioja, Ricardo Quintela, cHe confirmed that they reached an agreement for “salary recomposition” with the local Police, and stated that he will send a project to the provincial Legislature to create “its own currency” for the district. The governor said that the crisis that led him to promote this initiative arises from the decision of Javier Milei to extend last year’s Budget, which caused annual inflation to liquefy provincial funds.
“I told them the situation we are going through (in the province) and they understood it. They apologized and we agreed to a salary adjustment in two payments because we do not have resources“Quintela explained in statements to Radio 10.
In addition, The governor added that “he doesn’t want people to die of hunger,” and he anticipated that for this reason he will send to the provincial Legislature “a project for the creation of its own currency for the province.”
“Today we have not even reached the first week following receiving salaries. The Riojans are left without money. That is why I called extraordinary sessions to send a bill that authorizes the creation of a monetary instrument, if necessary.“said the president.
The governor explained that the crisis arose following President Javier Milei took office and decided to extend last year’s Budget, which caused annual inflation to liquefy provincial funds.
Quintela recalled that in 1988 they already had “a provincial currency” and another was also put into circulation during the period 2000-2001.
