After listening to the needs of the mayors of Urabá Antioquia, in a security council held in the municipality of Necoclí, Governor Andrés Julián Rendón Cardona expressed that the construction of a departmental prison is becoming increasingly necessary.

“Once again, common issues in other regions of Antioquia are put on the table. Firstly, a very large lack of force and the few police officers who are taking care of people deprived of their liberty. That is why the proposal to build a departmental prison for unionized persons that creates a thousand new spaces and that takes that responsibility away from the mayors and the Public Force is more valid than ever,” he said.

And the fact is that the number of police officers in the municipalities of that subregion does not compare with the needs and complexity of the area where different armed groups and criminal structures converge that obtain illicit income from micro-trafficking, drug trafficking and migrant trafficking that They reach those municipalities to try to cross to Panama through the Darién jungle.

Apart from that, many of the officers end up guarding people deprived of their liberty who should be in detention centers managed by Inpec and not in the cells of Police stations as is currently the case.

Technology at the service of security

Governor Rendón reiterated the importance of technology being at the service of security and crime prevention and that public forces can use it to improve coexistence in the municipalities of the region.

He added that the commitment of citizens is also required so that they “be the eyes and ears of the authorities” in their neighborhoods, towns or villages.

On the other hand, he announced that the Government of Antioquia, through an interdisciplinary team of the Secretariats of Women, Health and Safety, will carry out coordinated actions with the municipal administrations to counteract domestic violence and decisively protect children. and women in homes.

**Interview with ⁣Governor Andrés Julián Rendón Cardona⁤ on Security Issues in Urabá Antioquia**

**Interviewer:** Thank‍ you for joining us⁤ today, Governor Rendón. Recently, you held a security council in Necoclí focused on the needs‌ of Urabá Antioquia. Could you summarize the main issues‍ discussed?

**Governor Rendón:** Thank you for having me. The key issues revolved around the overwhelming security challenges faced by the region. We ⁣have an insufficient number of police officers relative to the population and the complexities that arise from various armed groups operating in⁤ the area. These groups are involved in activities such as ‌micro-trafficking‌ and human trafficking, which escalate the need ⁣for enhanced security measures.

**Interviewer:** You proposed the construction of a departmental prison during this council. Why do you believe this is essential for Urabá?

**Governor Rendón:** The‌ need for a departmental prison is urgent. Current facilities are overburdened and do not meet the needs of our growing population. My proposal⁤ to build a new prison ‌with a thousand additional spaces aims to relieve the burden on both our mayors and the public force, ⁢allowing ‌law⁣ enforcement to focus on current threats⁤ instead of managing overcrowded ⁢facilities. It’s essential to⁣ develop a solution that addresses the security needs ⁣effectively.

**Interviewer:**⁤ What ‍are the anticipated benefits of establishing this prison in the region?

**Governor Rendón:** ⁤Establishing‍ a new prison will provide several ‍benefits. ⁣Firstly, it will ⁤improve the management of inmates, allowing for better rehabilitation and integration into society. Secondly, it will enable law enforcement to allocate more resources to community safety rather than dealing⁤ with the repercussions of overcrowding. Ultimately, this facility will enhance the overall security framework of⁢ Urabá⁣ and support ‍the hard work of our‌ police personnel.

**Interviewer:** With the complexities of ⁢crime in Urabá and the limited police presence, how ‍do you⁤ envision ⁤enhancing local security beyond‌ the prison project?

**Governor Rendón:** We‌ must take ‍a holistic approach. This includes better training for our police force, community engagement programs to involve residents in safety⁣ initiatives, and collaborations with national security forces to tackle organized crime more effectively. Investing in‍ education and socio-economic development is also crucial, as these factors help ⁣prevent crime before it starts.

**Interviewer:** Thank you, Governor Rendón, for sharing your insights⁢ on this pressing issue. We hope to see positive ‍developments in Urabá’s security situation soon.

**Governor Rendón:** Thank you! Together, we ⁤can make Urabá⁢ a safer place for‍ all its residents.
