“The President of the Republic (…) and the Minister of Agriculture and Livestock (…) launched this Tuesday (…) the financing plan for agriculture and livestock in the country. Resources of 364,220 million reais are allocated [75.891 millones de dólares] to support the national agricultural production of medium and large rural producers until June 2024,” the government reported in a statement published on its website.
The plan, whose financing increased 27%seeks to encourage the strengthening of sustainable production systems by reducing interest rates.
“Rural producers who already have the Rural Environmental Registry will be rewarded, as well as those rural producers who adopt agricultural practices considered more sustainable,” the government added.
In addition, another of its objectives is to support agricultural production by providing loans with lower interest rates.
Producers who adopt organic or agroecological production practices, bio-inputs, manure treatment, rock dust and limestone, will be entitled to a reduction of 0.5 percentage points in the interest rate.
The plan also highlights the strengthening of medium-sized rural producers, who will have greater availability of financing and investment resources.
On June 6, Lula stressed that there should be no “rivalry” between the reindustrialization process that it is carrying out and the export agribusiness, which is the main component of the country’s economic growth.
