Thiruvananthapuram: The government has tightened the control of the treasury following the worsening financial crisis in the state. The limit for daily expenditure bills has been reduced from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 5 lakh. Special permission of the Finance Department is required for passing major bills above Rs 5 lakh. The restriction is imposed to ensure money for running costs.
The restriction will apply to all bills except for urgent and important expenses such as salary, pension and purchase of medicines. The finance department has warned the treasury that strict action will be taken if the bill is passed in violation of the regulation. In connection with Onam, treasury restrictions had been imposed a month before.
