Government services arrive at Bañado Sur with animal welfare day and free vaccinations

Asuncion, IP Agency.- This Saturday, August 24, the National Directorate of Animal Defense, Health and Welfare will hold an important animal welfare event in the Bañado Sur in Asunción. The event will take place at the “Villa Esperanza” Comprehensive Development Center from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

During the day, a free vaccination campaign for pets will be offered, where anti-rabies vaccines, sextuple vaccines for dogs and trivalent vaccines for cats will be administered, all administered by a team of veterinary professionals. It is recommended that dogs be kept on a leash and cats in a secure carrier or box, and if possible, attend with the animal’s vaccination card.

What do these doses prevent and how often are they administered?

Rabies vaccination should be given from the third month of the pet’s life, with a booster dose at 30 days and at six months. Subsequently, the vaccine should be administered annually throughout the life of the animal.

The sextuple vaccine is essential for the prevention of distemper, hepatitis, kennel cough, parainfluenza, parvovirus and coronavirus in canines. Vaccination is recommended for dogs in good health. Puppies 45 days or older should receive three doses three to four weeks apart, followed by an annual booster.

The trivalent or triple feline vaccine, which protects against panleukopenia, rhinotracheitis and calicivirus, is administered to kittens from eight weeks of age. Primary vaccination comprises four doses: the second at 12 weeks, the third at 16, and the fourth between 24 and 26 weeks. Although this initial series is crucial, it does not provide lifelong protection, so revaccination is necessary. The frequency of this depends on the individual circumstances of the cat, with revaccination every three years in low-risk cases, or annually in cats with greater exposure to these diseases.

This event seeks to protect the health of pets in communities with limited access to veterinary services, as well as to promote responsibility in their care, strengthening animal welfare in Bañado Sur.
