Foreign Minister Alberto Van Klaveren described as “unacceptable and imprudent” the criticism of the Chilean judicial system by Colombian President Gustavo Petro, for the preventive detention of the mayor of Recoleta, Daniel Jadue (PC).

Through his X account, Petro shared a video of former Ecuadorian legislator Gabriela Rivadeneira, in which she questioned the “dictatorship of the judicial war” once morest the communist militant.

Petro echoed these words, although he confused the first name of the head of the community. “I ask for the freedom of Gabriel Jadue (sic) in Chile. Imprisoned by the Pinochet jurisprudence imposed on free beings.”

Faced with this situation, Van Klaveren wrote on the same social network that “we delivered a note of protest to the Colombian Chargé d’Affaires in Chile in response to the remarks of President Gustavo Petro.”

“These are unacceptable and reckless statements that ignore the democratic history of our country and the existence of the rule of law,” the official said.

This same day, preventive detention was ratified once morest Jadue, accused in the Farmacias Populares case, following considering that there are no new antecedents that justify the change.
