Government Plans to Build 1 Million Hectares of Agricultural Land in Merauke

The Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Agriculture held a socialization to the Uli-uli Village Community in Ilwayab District regarding the government’s program in the development of food land or food estates, road access and docks in Ilwayab District, Merauke, South Papua.

Head of the Food Security BKO Task Force of the Ministry of Agriculture, Major General TNI Ahmad Rizal Ramdhani accompanied by the Secretary General of the PSP of the Ministry of Agriculture Hermanto explained to approximately 30 people that in the future the government will create one million hectares (ha) of rice fields in Merauke.

Rizal said that Merauke Regency has a wide, low and flat plain and has fertile soil. Therefore, Merauke Regency, especially Ilwayab District, will be built rice fields, especially rice fields.

“The construction of roads and docks is access for heavy equipment to enter. Road construction is not only for access for Heavy Equipment to enter but for the community to make it easier to travel to the neighboring Village or District,” he said as reported in an official statement, Thursday (15/8).

He described that the area of ​​agricultural land to be developed is 1 million ha up to Ngguti District.

“So for the construction of the road will also reach Ngguti District. Of course this will be beneficial for the community, the road in the future will be better. Four districts will be connected by good roads,” explained Rizal.

Rizal hopes that the presence of this national project will receive support from the community and customs so that the work runs smoothly and the results can be enjoyed as soon as possible. This will certainly provide prosperity for the Merauke community and Uli-uli Village in particular. (Z-8)
