To facilitate walkability and promote the economic development of rural areas, the Government of Antioquia announced that it will improve approximately 10,000 kilometers of tertiary roads in the department.
The task is expected to be completed within the year 2027 and will be carried out with the collaboration of the municipalities, seeking to transform the territory’s road infrastructure.
Tertiary roads, which are essential for the transportation of agricultural products and the connection between communities, cover around 20,000 kilometers in Antioch. However, many of these are in precarious conditions, making access to markets and basic services difficult.
The Government’s intervention plan includes the paving of at least half of these roads, a measure that could have a significant impact on the quality of life of residents of rural areas.
The project includes various infrastructure works, such as the construction of retaining wallssystems drainage and the building of bridges where necessary. These improvements are designed to ensure that the roads are passable year-round, regardless of weather conditions.
The Secretary of Infrastructure of Antioquia, Horacio Gallón, stressed that the intention of Governor Andrés Julián Rendón Cardona is to comprehensively transform the most remote areas of the region. “As long as there is security and mobility, there is development,” he said.
With the interventions, it is expected that farmers will be able to transport their products more efficiently, which will not only reduce transportation costs, but also improve the quality of agricultural products that reach the market.
Connecting the paths with the municipal capitals and these, in turn, with the 4G routesseeks to promote greater competitiveness in the department. The planning and execution of this project is aligned with the Departmental Road Planwhich establishes the priorities and actions to follow to guarantee an effective transportation system in Antioquia.
The Government emphasized that the implementation of these improvements requires the active collaboration of the local mayors’ offices, which are responsible for the routes that connect the municipal capitals with the villages.
