THE GOVERNMENT through the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI) Seoul, South Korea, has received information regarding the sinking of the fishing vessel 2 Haesinho in Korean waters, Saturday (9/3) morning. On board the ship were two crew members (ABK) from Korea and seven Indonesian citizens (WNI).
As of Saturday (9/3), at 13.00 local time, the South Korean Coast Guard had found three crew members consisting of an Indonesian crew member and one from South Korea.
The three crew members were found unconscious. After intensive treatment at Tongyeong SAR Hospital, the three died. With this death, it means that there are still five Indonesian crew members whose fate is unknown.
“The Indonesian Embassy in Seoul is still coordinating with the Korean Coast Guard in carrying out an intensive search for other crew members,” said the Director of Protection for Indonesian Citizens and Indonesian Legal Entities (PWNI and BHI) at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Judha Nugraha, in a written statement, Sunday (10/3).
“At the same time, the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs is tracing the family data of Indonesian crew members to inform the process of searching for and fulfilling the rights of crew members,” he continued.
Quoting from Yonhap News Agency, the 20 ton fishing boat capsized in waters regarding 68 kilometers south of an island in Tongyeong, South Gyeongsang Province, at 06:29 local time.

South Korean officials said 12 Coast Guard patrol boats, four from the Navy and six helicopters were carrying out search operations at the incident site.
Authorities said they found no signs that the ship had hit another ship or hit a rock. The cause of the capsizing of the ship is not yet known.
The capsized ship is known to have left the southern resort island of Jeju on Thursday (7/3), at around 10:36 am local time. (Yonhap/Z-3)
