Foreign Minister Jin Park reported that President Yoon Seok-yeol conveyed the Korean government’s position on the contaminated water at the Fukushima nuclear power plant to Prime Minister Fumio Kishida at the Korea-Japan summit held in Hiroshima, Japan on the 21st.

Minister Park appeared on Yonhap News TV on the 22nd and said, “President Yoon gave a clear stance on the contaminated water issue at the Korea-Japan summit.” He said he needed Japan’s interest and support.”

At the same time, Minister Park said, “The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is conducting a verification of the safety of contaminated water, and in parallel, it is judged that Korea needs to check whether the purification and discharge of contaminated water to neighboring countries is objectively and transparently carried out. Under this, the inspection team went to Japan.”

The government inspection team, which departed the previous day to check the safety of the contaminated water treatment process at the Fukushima nuclear power plant, started official activities from that day. The government inspection team, which was dispatched according to the agreement between the leaders of Korea and Japan, consisted of 21 people.
