Special Presidential Envoy (UKP) for Poverty Alleviation and Food Security Cooperation Muhamad Mardiono held a focus group discussion (FGD) with the theme of strengthening the role and participation of MSMEs in improving economic performance and alleviating poverty, at the Borobudur Hotel, Jakarta, Monday (6/5) .
Mardiono said that the role of MSMEs in supporting the Indonesian economy is very large. So, it is necessary to implement policies that can increase the role of MSMEs.
“As we know, MSMEs are one of the largest producers of employment in many countries and have been proven to support reducing unemployment, as well as being able to increase economic stability. “Therefore, the government is focused on formulating policies that support MSMEs,” said Mardiono.
Mardiono said that government policies that support MSMEs include increasing partnerships, expanding access to financing for MSMEs through business capital, and accelerating the creation of startups and new business opportunities.
“In order to answer the challenge of developing MSMEs as an instrument for poverty alleviation, several other efforts are also needed. “Like the government, it also needs to accelerate the provision of an integrated and complete database system for MSMEs so that it can be accessed by various parties,” he explained.
Mardiono added that coordination of program support and development of MSMEs is also needed from various stakeholders to achieve the target of poverty alleviation in Indonesia.
“To strengthen the role of MSMEs and eradicate poverty in Indonesia requires cooperation and hard work from all stakeholders. “Especially through collaborative efforts so that support is more targeted while encouraging the use of digital technology,” he concluded.
The FGD this time also presented various resource persons such as Herbert Siagian, Expert Staff to the Minister for Productivity and Competitiveness, Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs, Muhamad Candra Utama as Senior Executive Vice President of Ultra Micro BRI. Then, Deputy for Population and Employment at the Ministry of Bappenas Maliqi, and CORE Senior Economist Hendri Saparini. (Z-6)
