Juan Gerardo Guerrero Garnica, Secretary General of the Presidency, this Tuesday, April 16, expanded details on the issue of the governor of Quiché, Mélinton Estuardo Solorzano Rivera, who recently stopped performing his duties.
He said that there was a removal, since the governor “presented a letter in which he asked the President of the Republic to make the position available while he clarifies his legal situation.”
He indicated that the substitute serves as governor of Quiché and with titular functions, while the other official resolves his situation.
On this issue of the governor of Quiché, the government initially indicated that the official had been dismissed, but then retracted what was reported.
Just last April 9, it was reported on social networks: “President Bernardo Arévalo has dismissed the governor of Quiché because he has ceased to be a repository of public trust.”
The government added on that occasion that in accordance with the law, the alternate governor, Héctor Morán, would assume the Governorate of Quiché on an interim basis.
The government shared an image that read: “incumbent governor, Mélinton Estuardo Solorzano Rivera, dismissed.”
However, the information took a turn, since the Executive later retracted it and in another publication stated: “a few minutes ago a decision was reported regarding the governor of Quiché that has not been confirmed by the Presidency of the Republic.”
“The decision is being studied, waiting to analyze the complaint and its scope, and to hear the governor’s version,” the Executive added on April 9.
Solorzano Rivera took office on March 21 following President Arévalo chose among the proposals presented.
