Previously, the government said, “The day before, to ensure the safety of our people, we decided to dispatch a military transport aircraft and rapid response team to Israel and supported the safe return of our people.”
The Air Force transport aircraft dispatched to Israel this time is the KC-330 model, and a total of four are in operation.
The KC-330 is a transport aircraft modified from the civilian airliner Airbus A330-200, and can transport 300 people and 47 tons of cargo.
This is the fifth time that our government has used military transport planes to transport our citizens overseas, including Korean residents.
Starting with the transportation of workers dispatched to Iraq in July 2020, in July 2021, we picked up soldiers from the Cheonghae Unit who were on a mission in the waters of the Gulf of Aden in Somalia.
In August 2021, an operation was carried out in Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan, to transport Korean citizens caught up in the civil war in Sudan in April.
In particular, it is known that during this process, not only Korean citizens but also Japanese and Singapore nationals who were staying in Israel were evacuated.
Our government said, “To support the return of our citizens to their home country, we brought 51 Japanese nationals and 6 Singaporeans on board for humanitarian reasons.”
