Government concludes sending antennas to provide internet access in a city affected by the rains

Last Friday, the 24th, the Ministry of Communications (MCom) and Telebras completed the shipment of antennas to provide internet access to the municipality of São Sebastião, located on the North Coast of São Paulo. This region has been severely punished by heavy storms in recent days resulting in landslides, damage to network infrastructure and deaths.

According to the Minister of Communications, Juscelino Filho, a total of 10 satellite connection equipment were sent to the region to allow access to the internet even with damaged local cables. This federal government initiative should allow professionals who work in search and rescue operations to log into municipal and state systems.

The first four antennas were sent from Brasília by plane and the other six were sent by land to Companhia Docas de Santos and then sent by sea to São Sebastião (SP). City hall employees received training from Telebras on how to operate the new equipment to ensure connectivity in the city.

“This delicate moment on the coast of São Paulo requires full attention and the Federal Government is dedicated to the needs of the region. We, MCom and related parties, are providing all possible services, such as sending, installing and training in the use of satellite connection antennas to enable communication on site”, said the minister.
