Government brings more than 425,000 liters of water to communities in Chaco

Asuncion, IP Agency.- Through Operation “Y Jeroja II”, 32 trucks transported 425,000 liters of water to 32 communities in the Paraguayan Chaco on Monday. The National Emergency Secretariat also distributed some 27,000 food kits to indigenous families living in these communities.

This operation has the support of the Ministry of National Defense, the National Emergency Secretariat, the Armed Forces, Essap, Senacsa, Itaipú Binacional and the National Police, said the head of the SEN, Arsenio Zárate.

The head of the SEN stressed that in this first phase they are bringing water mainly to educational institutions, so that children can drink drinking water and attend their respective schools normally.

“We are delivering 425,000 liters of water to date,” he said, announcing that similar deployments will be carried out from Asunción to Chaco on Wednesday and Friday of this week.

At this point, he pointed out that starting Wednesday they will also have vehicles from Cavialpa, which will join the mission within the framework of its social-corporate responsibility program.

He also thanked the president of Petropar for his cooperation with the fuel for transporting the vital liquid in trucks.

Zárate highlighted that to date 15 million liters of water have already been delivered in the Western Region.

Distribution of food kits

The National Emergency Secretariat is also delivering food kits and the supplies will reach all indigenous communities. In total, we will distribute 27,000 food kits, said the head, Arsenio Zárate.

At this point he explained that they have already left the department of Presidente Hayes, and since last week they have been working in Boquerón and then they will move to the department of Alto Paraguay.

He stressed that 98% of indigenous communities are in the departments of Presidente Hayes and Boquerón and approximately 2% in Alto Paraguay. He explained that almost 13,000 indigenous families live in Boquerón and almost 12,500 in Presidente Hayes; while in Alto Paraguay there are 2,200 families who are being assisted with food supplies.
