Government agrees to freeze ACPM price until June 2023 – Government – Politics

The Government, following a meeting with cargo and passenger carriers this followingnoon in Casa de Nariño, announced that it is committed to freeze the price of ACPM until June 2023.

This was confirmed by the Minister of Transportation, Guillermo Reyes, following the meeting between members of the union and President Gustavo Petro. “The president assured that in terms of ACPM, which is the fuel for cargo transporters, there will be no increases until June of next year,” Transport Minister Guillermo Reyes assured at the end of the meeting.

In the sector there was concern, because the Government, from October 1, began with the rise in the price of gasoline. This is part of one of the measures to combat the deficit that currently exists in the Fuel Price Stabilization Fund.

“The fuel price stabilization deficit due to non-payment by the previous government is 10 billion per quarter. That is, almost 40 billion annually. Almost half of the national budget deficit. It is produced by not raising the price of gasoline,” Petro wrote a few days ago.

Following this decision, the national gasoline average for October stands at $9,380 per gallon. It will increase by 200 pesos per month until the end of 2022.

Precisely regarding this increase, the president told the carriers that this increase is due to several factors, such as Russia’s war with Ukraine and the devaluation of the peso once morest the dollar.

Now, in what has to do with diesel, some sectors had assured that it would be detrimental to increase this price. From the beginning, the Government had indicated that this would not rise and this was ratified this Wednesday, October 5 with the commitment that was acquired from the Presidency to freeze the price of ACPM until June 2023. This, on average, is $9,018 .

With cargo and passenger transport, the government also promised to review some effects that are being generated to Colombian transporters in the neighborhood.

In what has to do with tolls, Reyes reiterated the call for the same drivers to be the ones who form oversight offices to verify if they are complying with road concessions.

He had said that the price of diesel was going to be frozen until December and we already achieved with this meeting that it is going to be frozen until June of next year, so it is a gain for us truckers and for the entire Colombian people,” he said. The Minister of Transportation also referred to the fact that commercial flights between Colombia and Venezuela might not be restored.
