Gout increases the risk of cardiovascular disease High blood pressure and myocardial infarction 3 times

Gout patients were significantly more likely to develop ischemic heart disease than normal people.

(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Kim Jandi = Gout patients are three times more likely to suffer from hypertension or acute myocardial infarction than normal people, a study found.

Seoul National University Hospital Operation The joint research team led by Professor Shin Ki-cheol and Kim Min-jeong of the Department of Rheumatology at Seoul Boramae Hospital and Professor Ki-won Moon of the Department of Rheumatology at Kangwon National University Hospital used data from the National Health Insurance Corporation to identify 3,306 patients diagnosed with gout and their age and gender. It was announced on the 17th that this fact was confirmed by comparing a matched normal control group of the same size.

In addition, the risk of acute myocardial infarction and stroke was 3.24 and 1.55 times higher in gout patients than in the normal control group, respectively. The risk of developing ischemic heart disease was 1.86 times.

After adjusting for external factors, a significant association between gout and cardiovascular disease was confirmed. The researchers concluded that gout was a factor influencing the development of cardiovascular disease.

Professor Shin said, “In general, when the concentration of uric acid in the body increases, the expression of inflammation in various cells is promoted. It will be important to regularly manage your uric acid levels.”
