Götzis was only a touch short of a historic 7000 points

The heptathlon at the Götzis meeting brought an outstanding performance from Anna Hall (USA) on Sunday. Isabel Posch was surprisingly the best Austrian.

The clock ran relentlessly as the last opponent for Anna Hall. The American would have had to run an 800m time of 2:02.20 minutes in the heptathlon in Götzis on Sunday to be the fifth athlete in history to surpass the magical 7000 point mark. In the end it was 2:02.97 and 6988 points. This makes her the fifth best heptathlete in history. 14,000 spectators in the Mösle Stadium clapped and cheered for this outstanding performance.

The fact that the next historic moment of glory in Götzis just didn’t succeed was ultimately only due to the javelin throw, in which Hall fell just short of her potential at 43.08 meters. Otherwise, however, the 22-year-old put in best performances in a row and had hope following the second best number of points in history following the first day. In the long jump it started well with 6.54 meters, it was Hall’s fourth personal best in the fifth competition. After the javelin throw came the 800-meter dash, in which Hall pulled away from the front right from the start. The whole stadium got up and tried to rush Hall at the almost impossible time. After all, the 2:02.97 was once more a personal best. “I’m really so happy with this achievement,” said Hall. “The audience carried me to the finish. I gave everything. Götzis was a dream, the energy here is enormous. I hope I can come back next year. I’m only 22, I still have time to beat 7000 once. “

Lagger gave up disappointed

Sarah Lagger left the Austrian triathlon early following a very mixed weekend. She skipped the final 800-meter dash. “It was difficult for me, but following 5.70 meters in the long jump, a good score was already impossible,” said the Carinthian. Therefore, together with trainer Victoria Schreibeis, she decided to get out. She now wants to do more individual competitions and compete in the next heptathlon at the end of July. Lagger still needs a good result to qualify for the World Cup for Budapest in August.

Fans drove Vorarlberg women on

Things went much better for the two women from Vorarlberg in the heptathlon. Both Chiara Schuler and Isabel Posch finished Götzis with personal bests. First, Isabel Posch continued her strong Götzis debut in the long jump. As third in the long jump with 6.43 meters, she pushed ahead of Chiara Schuler (6.06 m) in the overall ranking. In the javelin, Chiara Schuler came in third (46.94 meters), Isabel Posch came up with 42.25 meters. Over 800 meters, Posch, driven by the fans, then just undercut the required time for the 6000 mark in 2:18.50 – 6021 points mean 15th place, while Schuler in 2:25.12 and 19th overall (5916 points ) completed. Posch was overjoyed: “It’s unbelievable. I never thought it would go so well. The mood was bomb.” Schuler added: “It was a really cool heptathlon, I wouldn’t have expected a best performance beforehand. Unfortunately, I missed the 6000 in the javelin throw.”

The men’s decathlon was still going on Sunday followingnoon.
