Since 2020, DFDS has sailed via Frederikshavn on the trip from Copenhagen to Oslo and back, but with the new owner, Gotlandsbolaget, at the helm, there will be changes to the route.
Thus, Gotlandsbolaget is dropping the calls in Frederikshavn Harbor in the period from the end of March to the middle of December, effective from the 2025-26 season.
– After the current winter season 2024-25, we will stop calling at Frederikshavn on the way between Copenhagen and Oslo in both directions; this means that between 30 March and mid-December next year, we will not dock in Frederikshavn, says Kevin Helsinghof to Standby.dk.
He is the commercial director of the former DFDS route between Copenhagen and Oslo, which was taken over by the Swedish shipping company Gotlandsbolaget on 1 November.
The adaptation of the route is due to the fact that most customers spend most of their time in Oslo and Copenhagen before the journey home. By dropping Frederikshavn, guests can have more time in the two capitals, explains Kevin Thyge Helsinghof.
Gotlandsbolaget sticks to the North Jutland call from December to the end of March, because many ski guests make the trip from Frederikshavn. These guests both come from Denmark, but also drive from Germany and the Netherlands to ski in Norway.
The industry media Søfart is trying to get a comment from Kevin Thyge Helsinghof.
Gotlandsbolaget paid approximately DKK 400 million to take over the Oslo route. Around 700,000 passengers use the route each year.
